Hermitage of Tizzano

Standing in front of Colle della Guardia, it contains pieces of extraordinary artwork and offers a wonderful panorama. The Hermitage of Tizzano (Eremo di Tizzano) is found in Casalecchio di Reno, a few kilometers from the town center in the direction of Zola Predosa.

It dates back to the 17th century, built by the Camaldolese Monks between 1655 and 1741. Styled in Bolognese Baroque, it houses a 16th-century crucifix made from olive wood, a wooden choir, and paintings by Gaetano Gandolfi and Guercino. Furthermore, the remains of two of the 17 cells used by the hermit monks are still visible in the meadow behind the Hermitage, and you can access a small secondary church that was used as a refuge during World War II.

Not to be overlooked, the Hermitage of Tizzano also provides a beautiful panorama: before you stands the Sanctuary of San Luca, on the right is the Reno valley, and on particularly clear days you can see as far as Monte Mario and Badolo.
